After a noticed passage in the cinematographic world, where he composed among others the soundtrack of the successful movie Crisis with the legendary Cliff Martinez, Raphaël Reed launches his first EP, Reversal, under the young but promising Montreal based label Supersavant.
REVERSAL is the first EP of composer Raphaël Reed. An instrumental project where analog synths, strings, piano, and electroacoustic elements meet to create a lush and enveloping sound universe. A contemplative framework, but which always manages to involve us, to bring us back after having let us drift a moment. The artist was inspired by the sea and its capacity to be extremely intense as well as soothingly calm to create this continuous swell movement.
A contrast that gives the work both its hopeful side – forward, and its nostalgic side – backward. Raphaël Reed is a musician of contradiction; trained in classical music, but with a degree in contemporary creation. A figure of the Montreal underground scene, but a composer for Hollywood productions. Innovative, but aware of the past. It is paradoxically through all these contradictions that the artist finds his balance. His hybrid vision of creation has led him to carve out a place for himself in multidisciplinary spaces where music rubs shoulders with other art forms, such as live performance and film.
He also signed the soundtrack of Crisis (2021), by director Nicholas Jarecki, a film on which veteran composer Cliff Martinez serves as musical advisor. This experience was a turning point in Raphaël’s career and in the consolidation of his sound personality. His work can also be heard on Les bracelets rouges (2022), Sam (2021) The Walrus and the Whistleblower (2020), Louise Lecavalier: In Motion (2018), Révolution (2018), and 1:54 (2016). Previously, he has worked on the musical creation of several international events, such as the 2014 UEFA Champions League Grand Final in Portugal and the 2017 Chimelong International Circus in China.
