Jane Campion’s ‘The Power of the Dog’ Leads Oscar List
Jane Campion’s wonderful western tale ‘The Power of the Dog’ leads the oscar pack with 12 nominations, including best picture, best director for Jane Campion, and acting by star Benedict Cumberbatch and supporting players Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. This is a unique and emotional film that I highly recommend.
Dune was nominated with ten awards but was snubbed in the director and acting categories. This is a shame because Dune was one of my favorite and long-awaited films of the year, and Denis Villeneuve deserved a nomination for his fantastic direction (in my humble opinion).
West Side Story and Belfast were nominated for seven nominations, and King Richard was the next big runner-up with six nominations, and all three were included for best picture. CODA, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Licorice Pizza, and Nightmare Alley run on the list for best picture.
Also, amazingly Encanto’s hit song ‘Don’t Talk about Bruno’ was left out of the original song list (although ‘Dos Oruguitas’ from the film was nominated).
Here is the complete list of films. What were some of your favorites? Let us know in the comments below!
